Abstract: The implementation of public works initiatives without due consideration of elitist contexts leads to unsustainable consequences. Kenya’s Kazi Mtaani falls in this argumentation. It was mooted as a state-driven strategy to address the social and economic challenges of the youth bulge in the country. The implementation of this strategy largely peripheralized the context of elitism whose consequences have seen the intractability of exogenous influences as well as internal resource wastage in project implementation. The study was located in elite theory that explains superior-minority and inferior-majority relations in community project development. It employed convergent parallel mixed methods with a sample size comprised of 314 respondents. Primary data were collected using self-administered questionnaires. Reliability was determined by the use of Cronbach Alpha at a level of 0.7. Quantitative data were analyzed using Pearson Correlation and regression analysis to identify the relationship between variables. Qualitative data were thematically organized prior to reporting in narrations and quotations. The study found and concluded that there is a significant negative correlation between the efficacy of elitism and the implementation of Kazi Mtaani projects (r= .578 p=0.01 These findings are significant for the analysis of the role of the elites in project implementation especially in the prognosis of interventions necessary for success of the projects. The study recommends the establishment of mechanisms for meaningful youth participation in decision-making processes throughout the projects life cycle.

Abstract: This study explored the use of digital media (videos, digital games) in the development of arithmetic skills (number identification, addition, subtraction) in a lower primary (standard one and standard two) in Tanzania. The hypothesis assumed a statistically significant linear relationship between the use of digital media and the development of arithmetic skills in the lower primary. The stratified sampling technique was used to select 160 pupils with F-grade scores in continuous assessment from two public schools in Dodoma City. The experimental group comprised 80 pupils and the control group had 80 pupils. The cognitive theory of Multimedia Learning guided the study, as it emphasises the significance of digital media like videos and digital games in learning. The Multivariate General Linear Model displayed a statistically significant relationship between the use of digital media (video and digital games) and the development of arithmetic skills (Number identification, addition, subtraction) among the lower primary in Tanzania. The study also confirmed that the mean difference between T1 and T2 within pupils in arithmetic skills was also statistically significant because the experimental group demonstrated higher test scores than the control group, indicating the positive effect of videos and digital games on the pupils’ number identification, addition, and subtraction skills. The study recommended that policymakers, curriculum developers, teachers, and other educational stakeholders consider incorporating digital media (videos, digital games) in teaching arithmetic skills among lower primary pupils.

Abstract: The study focusses on teachers` perspectives on the development of 21st century skills in Early Childhood Development (ECD). The study was motivated by mixed reactions by various teachers on the competency-based curriculum. A qualitative approach was adopted in order to get in- depth information from the teachers in their natural setting. A case study design was adopted drawing on five schools which were purposively sampled to obtain rich data. Semi- structured interviews were used to generate data. The study comprised ten Early Childhood Development teachers and five school heads who were purposively sampled. Data were analysed using thematic content analysis. The findings reveal that teachers have a good understanding of the 21st century skills. A few teachers, however, conflated the 21st century skills with learning areas. Findings further reveal challenges such as misconceptions on play pedagogies and lack of resources. The study recommends, strategies such as engaging in income generating ECD projects will capacitate schools to buy teaching and learning materials for teachers necessary in developing the 21st century skills. Another recommendation is the implementation of staff development for teachers and administrators on ECD curriculum.

Abstract: With the rapid increasing population, Kenya is faced with a critical challenge of food production, unemployment and poverty. In recent years, the country has implemented agricultural development programmes especially those led by women through government and donor funding. However, for different reasons these women-led development projects have produced mixed outcomes. This study, therefore, sought to assess the effect of relationship building strategy on the sustainability of women-led development projects in Uasin Gishu County. The study was anchored on Social Network theory. The study applied descriptive research design. The target population was 386 women led enterprises registered with Ministry of trade in Uasin Gishu County and are implementing agricultural projects from Kesses and Turbo sub-counties. Using Krejcie & Morgan (1970) table of sample determination, the research recruited 412 respondents spread across the two sub-counties. Proportionate sampling helped the researcher to research 226 respondents in Kesses sub-county and 186 respondents in Turbo Sub- County respectively. Simple random sampling technique was used to interview the 412 respondents in the two sub-counties. Data was analyzed by the use of descriptive statistics and presented in form of mode, mean, standard deviation and correlation since there are more than two variables. Whereas inferential statistics was done by testing linearity and normality regression. Based on the findings of this study, the study concluded that the network building and recruitment of donors influenced sustainability of women-led development projects. Network building and recruitment of donors enhanced sustainability of women led project. The study recommended that relationship building strategy with network building and recruitment of donors should be used to enhance sustainability of women led project.

Abstract: Cotton farming in Kenya, particularly around Lake Victoria, once flourished, producing about 100,000 bales annually and supporting numerous families. However, production has significantly declined, raising concerns about sustainability. This study assesses the effectiveness of current interventions and their impact on cotton farming sustainability in Kisumu County, Kenya. Guided by functionalism theory, the study employed a mixed-method approach with descriptive and correlational designs. A total of 293 respondents, selected from a target population of 600 farmers aged 18 to 65, participated through questionnaires, interviews, and focus group discussions. Key findings revealed that 68% of respondents were aware of government interventions, yet only 52% had benefited from subsidies or support programs. While research introduced better farming techniques, only 43% of farmers adopted them due to low engagement. Policy frameworks supporting cotton farming were acknowledged by 60%, though 45% cited challenges in implementation. Cotton cooperatives improved production for 55% of farmers, but financial and infrastructural constraints remained barriers. Moreover, 62% of respondents identified inadequate training, and 58% highlighted poor market prices as key obstacles to sustainability. The study concludes that while interventions exist, they are insufficiently coordinated to ensure long-term sustainability. More comprehensive efforts in policy enforcement, farmer training, and infrastructure development are critical to revitalizing cotton farming in Kisumu County, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).

Abstract: Education is one way to impart moral consciousness in individuals. One of the marks of moral growth is abstinence from retrogressive socio-cultural beliefs and practices. The study investigated the relationship between reasons given by teachers and students for abstaining from retrogressive socio-cultural practices and their levels of moral development, based on Kohlberg’s theory of moral development. The retrogressive socio-cultural practices were identified from Henry Ole Kulet’s novel Blossoms of the Savannah, which was selected purposively. The research was descriptive comparative by design. The study targeted 2227 Form Three students and 620 teachers of English from national secondary schools from Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet Counties. From this population, 339 students and 59 teachers were sampled using Taro Yamane’s formula and selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires, focus group discussions, classroom observations and content analysis. Quantitative data was analysed using SPSS (version 25) program. Qualitative data was analysed thematically. From the novel, four retrogressive practices were identified, namely female genital mutilation, polygamy, patriarchy along with male chauvinism, and arranged or early marriages. From the findings, majority of students and teachers’ reason at the post-convectional level of moral development, as evidenced from the various explanations they gave for abstaining from retrogressive socio-cultural practices. Therefore, teachers and students’ reason beyond the perspectives of society and recognize that laws must be consistent with individuals’ rights. Consequently, the government should select and approve literary texts as set-books that promote conventional or post-conventional level of moral reasoning in their readers.

Abstract: In today’s highly competitive and dynamic business environment, organisations that aim to excel rely on organisational knowledge, intelligence and experience to drive their strategic planning, decision making and implementation processes. To transform organisational wisdom into value creating activities, understanding and aligning key aspects of organisational context in the direction of corporate objectives and strategies becomes management’s ultimate goal. Knowledge transfer, innovation and creativity, and learning and adaptability are realised if an organisation’s purpose, culture and structure are configured to drive competitiveness. The study examined the influence of organisational context on corporate wisdom system development in Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN)’s Eswatini division, which was presumed to have adopted the corporate wisdom concept. The study focused on how organisation purpose, culture and structure influence wisdom system development at MTN Eswatini. An objective questionnaire circulated to managerial staff using Google forms attracted 50 valid responses which were analysed to reflect the influence of purpose, culture and structure on the organisation’s wisdom system development. Since the study was conducted during the height of Covid-19 that forced many managerial staff to work from home, 50 respondents were conveniently selected to participate in the study. Results of the study show that MTN’s purpose clearly specifies value proposition to its customers (SD=.544), management and subordinates agree on goals to be pursued (SD=.756) and MTN’s purpose specifies areas of focus to achieve company goals (SD=.550). All the six elements of culture that were examined have mean scores of between 4 and 5, indicating MTN culture is configured to drive the organisation’s goals. Overall, the study established that purpose, culture and structure of MTN significantly influence MTN’s wisdom system development.
