Effect of Health Care Service Programmes among the Elderly in Kajiado North Sub-County, Kajiado County, Kenya

Abstract: This study set to establish effects of cash assistance and health care programs among the Elderly in Kajiado North Sub-County in Kenya. Descriptive survey research design was adopted in the study. The sample size of the elderly was 249. Purposive sampling was used to select key informants from the organization providing the social service programs in the subcounty. Questionnaires were used to collect data from the respondents. The collected data was analyzed with the help of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). Descriptive and inferential statistics were used in presenting the quantitative data. Inferential statistics was used in establishing the relationship between the variables under study. There was a significant relationship between social service programs and the wellbeing of the elderly in Kajiado North Sub County (p<0.015). There was a positive association between cash transfers and health care services and the wellbeing of the elderly. The study recommends that there is need for empowering the social service programs in the county so as to support the needs of the elderly. This empowering may be in terms of resources such as finance, human resource and food. Additionally, the study also recommends that the government should set more funds and encourage private investors to contribute towards the social service programs. The social service programs should also come up with the right recreational activities that can be friendly to the elderly people.
